First Communion Program
“While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, ‘Take and eat; this is my body.’” Gospel of St Matthew 26:26Jesus invites us to receive of Him through Bread and Wine. Like His disciples who believed He was present in the Eucharist, we believe that at every Mass, Jesus is present in Bread and Wine. We call this Communion. Like the Disciples of Jesus, your child will experience that same personal encounter with the Lord. At Queen of Angels Church, our First Holy Communion program is a two year program, which will strengthen your child’s spiritual and emotional journey with the Lord.

In the first year, your child will learn about the basic teachings of the Catholic Faith, which includes, Prayer, the Bible, the Ten Commandments, Feast Days and so much more. This will deepen your child’s understanding of their Baptismal call to service in the community. Our Catechists strive to be “Echoes of the Gospel” for our youth and will encourage your child to have a personal relationship with the Lord. In the second year, our Catechists will prepare your child for First Penance and First Holy Communion. Our goal is to deepen their appreciation for the Mass, and their love for Jesus in the Eucharist.
“Holy Communion, because by this sacrament we unite ourselves to Christ, who makes us sharers in his Body and Blood to form a single body.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1331)
Day & Time of Program:
The First Communion Program is on Wednesday at 2PM-3:30PM, and on Saturday at 10AM-11:30AM. If your child attends public school on Wednesday, you can acquire an Early Release Form from the Faith Formation Office, granting your child permission to leave school early to attend Religion Class.

Requirements for our program:
1) Children who are in 1st thru 5th grade should be registered to the program. If your child is in the 6th grade and has not received First Communion, we will place them in our Rite of Christian Initiation for Children.
2) Must be Baptized! Children who have not received Baptism and are attending the 1st or 2nd grade, will be recommended to attend the Baptism Class provided by Queen of Angels. Click on BAPTISM CLASS. If your child is in the 3rd grade and above, they must attend our Rite of Christian Initiation for Children. (Continue towards the end for the Application Form)
3) Children must attend the Wednesday or Saturday Class, as well as Sunday Mass. For Mass times, click MASS TIMES
4) Registration Fee is $60. You can register at the Parish Office or Online. We will call you for a brief interview. Please bring with you a copy of your child’s Birth Certificate and Baptismal Certificate.
5) If you attend another Catholic Church outside of our boundary, you must bring with you a letter from the Pastor of your Parish granting you permission for your child to attend our Faith Formation Program.
